Heat Lightning
Years ago, I worked on a ranch outside of Kamloops. It was desert country, and they’d pump water up from the Thompson River to grow alfalfa hay on the plateau-ridges (which had really sandy soil). I had the use of an IT465 and would race with the CP trains on the way to do irrigation. One day, I was raking hay and noticed something from the corner of my eye: it was the Snowbirds flying through the valley. They were flying really low—I was working on a high plateau and they were almost at eye-level. In the fall, millions of salmon arrived, which made the water in my bunkhouse stink. The family that owned the ranch invited me to their son’s 10th birthday party. They treated me like family—really great people. I had a fairly new cassette of Harvest, so I brought that as a present. That kid—he’d be about 30 now. I wonder if he still listens to Neil Young?
Sign of the Tims
Starting in March every year, Tim Hortons rolls out its Roll up the Rim to Win campaign.
Around the same time, something else occurs that involves about 13 million Canadians.
